![]() ![]() Number 1: Wizball
Some nasty wizard stole all colour from your world, so what do you do? In this game, you ride around in a ball and let your trusty cat Nifta pick up droplets of paint. You can let a friend control the catellite, which makes for some tremendously fun and cooperative play. Even on your own, playing the game is insanely addictive. You start the game with a nearly uncontrollable ball, and only by picking up magic green pearls and wiggling the joystick (take notice - you don't need to take your hands off the joystick to select your weapon. On other games, for example Commando, having to press the space bar while playing became so annoying that people put their computers on the floor and pressed the space bar with their toes!) can you get into shape. It's not difficult to rack up some impressive weaponry, but on later levels, not even that helps. The difficulty level in the game is damn near perfect. For the first year or so of playing this, you will get slightly further every time, and the game makes you keep coming back to it. Once you have mastered the bonus level, though, you can get extra lives too easily, which can make the game too easy at times - I have managed to score to much on this game that the game didn't bother keeping score any more! (It stops counting at 999999.) And now for something completely different: the music. This game features some of Martin Galway's finest moments, like the highscore music and the incredible bass solo on the bonus level. The classic C64 games magazine Zzap voted this the Best Game of All Time in issue 44, with comments like "...there are no improvements that could be made to this game - everything you could ever want from a piece of computer entertainment is in there and nothing has been compromised.", "...some of the best music you'll ever hear from a Commodore." and "...almost totally unique." Guys, who am I to disagree?
